BIM Specialist

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Professional in architecture with a degree in Architecture, or a closely related field. Accredited NAAB or LAAB program preferred. Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years* of professional experience working as a BIM Specialist, Architect or Architectural Designer
  • Can work efficiently and effectively, and able to provide training/support to employees in the following: Autodesk Suite, Bluebeam and MS Office
  • Must have demonstrated experience working in Revit on both small and large-scale Architecture projects; wood-frame architectural experience strongly preferred

RESPONSIBILITIES

The BIM Specialist will use their required qualifications and advanced knowledge and experience to coordinate, regularly update and maintain NSPJ’s BIM standards and practices. The work will be guided by and coordinated with the existing BIM Coordinator and BIM team to ensure that priorities are aligned with overall Firm objectives and project needs. A successful BIM Specialist will be highly collaborative and able to work effectively with colleagues of all experience levels. The BIM Specialist is expected to exercise discretion and judgment in the performance of the following primary duties:

  • Responsible for managing software updates, templates, add-ons, etc. for both Revit and AutoCAD
  • Develop BIM-related training and documents for in-house use; lead introductory training sessions for all new hires as part of the Onboarding process; provide training and support to Revit users on a regular basis as part of daily/weekly workflow
  • Utilizing required architectural knowledge, model and draft efficiently to develop and implement templates and standards; Build and troubleshoot flexible families and parameters; Manage work-shared models, both in-house and externally with consultants
  • Address and support project needs, necessary workflows, and comprehensive project deliverables for varied project and client types
  • Effectively coach and provide feedback and quality control for less-experienced Revit users; Will use BIM knowledge and experience to provide oversight and quality control on Revit-related work
  • Provide IT/Technology support to the firm, including set-up of new hire computers and general troubleshooting before escalating to outside tech support; research and remain current on new technologies in the industry; Provide advice to management regarding adoption of new technologies

ESSENTIAL EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS

  • Full-time schedule required including daily, in-person attendance
  • Essential for the effective performance in this role and the successful operation of the Firm’s business, must be able to communicate (verbal and written) effectively and constructively in English with NSPJ employees, consultants and clients to convey and understand details relating to projects and other business-related items. 
  • Collaborate with others and work cooperatively and effectively in a team environment
  • Knowledge and daily use of computers and the computer programs mentioned above
  • Able to work at a desk throughout the workday; adjustable (sit or stand) desks are standard
  • Must be able to see, interpret and analyze data in color on computer screens/programs and paper
  • Performs effectively under conditions of occasional high stress and pressure
  • Must possess/own a smartphone in order to complete two-factor authentication required for some websites, programs
