Information Technology (IT) Generalist

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field preferred
  • Minimum 5 years of IT support or systems administration experience (8+ years strongly preferred)
  • Strong troubleshooting capabilities across hardware, software, and network systems
  • Experience supporting hybrid (on-prem + cloud) environments for both on-site and remote users;
  • Ability to work independently as the primary IT resource, while collaborating with internal staff and external vendors
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft 365, Windows, and networking fundamentals
  • CompTIA (A+, Network+, Security+, Server+) and Microsoft (Endpoint, Azure, and Windows Server Hybrid) certifications preferred

RESPONSIBILITIES

Serves as the primary IT resource, responsible for Tier 1–2 support and the administration, support, and lifecycle management of all IT systems, infrastructure, and services across a hybrid (on-premises and Microsoft 365) environment, ensuring stability, security, and performance. Management relies on this position’s expertise and independent judgment to direct the IT operations of the Firm. The IT Generalist will utilize their qualifications and advanced knowledge when exercising discretion and judgment in the performance of the following primary duties:

  • End-User & Hardware Support – Provide Tier 1–2 support by troubleshooting devices, resolving performance/connectivity issues, and maintaining workstation, peripheral, and conferencing hardware to minimize downtime.
  • Systems & User Administration – Administer Microsoft 365, operating systems, and business applications (AutoDesk AEC collection), including user accounts, permissions (Active Directory / Entra ID), licensing, updates, and system configurations.
  • Server & Infrastructure Maintenance and Support – Support on-premises servers by monitoring system health, managing backups, applying updates/patching, and assisting with infrastructure maintenance and improvements.
  • Networking & Security – Maintain network connectivity (LAN/WAN, wireless, VPN) and manage endpoint and access security, including patching, identity controls, and adherence to security policies and data protection standards.
  • IT Operations & Lifecycle Management – Independently resolve most technical issues, maintain system documentation, manage IT assets and lifecycle planning, coordinate vendors, and implement technology improvements aligned with business needs.
  • AV & Workplace Technology Support – Support conference room and collaborative technology, including AV/VTC systems and digital signage, ensuring reliable operation for meetings and client presentations.

ESSENTIAL EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS

  • Daily on-site attendance for a typical workday and accurate recording of time per Firm policy
  • Essential for the effective performance in this role and the successful operation of the firm’s business, the individual must be able to communicate (verbal and written) effectively and constructively in English with NSPJ employees, vendors, and leadership in order to convey and understand details relating to projects and other business-related items. 
  • Must be able to see, interpret, and analyze data in color for computer set up, cable management, server light recognition, etc.
  • Before/After-hours support, due to an unexpected emergency situation, may be required
  • Ability to move, lift, and install equipment and devices (up to 50 lbs) throughout the office at floor, desk, and ceiling height
  • Performs effectively under conditions of occasional high stress and pressure
  • Access to a smartphone or equivalent authentication method for required multi‑factor authentication
